Derwent London is pleased to announce the successful applicants for its Community Fund (autumn 2019 round) from local community groups, residents and local business owners in Tech Belt*.
For the autumn 2019 Tech Belt Fund, over £25,000 is being awarded to the following projects:
- The Parent House – parent outreach volunteer programme
- Young Actors Theatre – performing arts classes for disadvantaged young people
- A New Direction – employment programme for disadvantaged children and young people
- The Literacy Pirates – literacy project for school children
- Rich Mix Cultural Foundation – art and film project for children
- Society Links – education support programme for young people
The projects chosen were from the largest number of applications received to date. A community panel was convened with officers from the local authorities, an independent communities consultant and staff from Derwent London, to contribute to the decision-making process. There was an impressive range of applications and the winning entries have been selected on the basis that they will offer positive benefits around our key themes – from employment to environmental, social, cultural, arts and health.
John Davies, Head of Sustainability at Derwent London, commented:
“We are once again really pleased to see such a great range of local projects for the Tech Belt this autumn and to be able to support some of these. The quality of projects was really interesting and we have prioritised our funding to those focusing on our key themes. We look forward to continuing to support local initiatives in the years to come.”
*The Tech Belt is defined here as the area extending from King’s Cross to Whitechapel, largely covering EC1 & E1.
